Why did Vernal and Jess turn down reward money, as well as Media attention to help find Deorr?

 

It's said that they turned down/stood up Dr. Phil after Dr. Phil had already made it to Idaho.

They even stood up Canine handle Harry Oaks. Harry made it all the way to the campground to realize the parents were not coming as said.

It got so bad, that no one was willing to search anymore due to this case pointing at the parents in all ways possible with facts on knowing what happened to Deorr and where he is.

Why would any parent turn down any opportunities to help find their child if you truly feel he is missing? They gave up looking for him because they know where he is.
